Fly Fishing the Waterton River should be on your bucket list!

The Waterton River leaves Waterton Park in Southwestern Alberta and flows through some of the most pristine country in Alberta. Described by one angler as the,  “New Zealand of Alberta”. The Waterton River holds trophy Brown Trout and can result in tremendous streamer and dry fly fishing! Fly Fishing this river is ideal from a raft or drift boat allowing you to fish deep canyons, high banks, and deep holes that can’t be fished by a walk and wade angler. Streamer fishing, Stonefly and Hopper fishing can result in large Brown Trout strikes.

Most days on the Waterton we see few or no other anglers! These floats are water dependent and by the end of July or early August walk and wade trips may be more appropriate. The Waterton can be fished into September and October. These trips book up quick!

One float on the Waterton River and you will see that you can’t possibly drift by and hit every seam and trout holding spot in one float. Spend two days at least fishing the Waterton!  Bring your camera as the scenery is second to none!

If you plan to fish the Waterton River for a few days staying inside Waterton Park in the Town of Waterton makes for an enjoyable trip. Pincher Creek as well, is an easy drive approximately a half hour drive North of the River. Get a hold of us and we can help provide some accommodation advice.
