Jason Dobirstein outfitter/head guide
Exploring and experiencing wild places in Alberta has always been a passion for Jason. Raised in a western lifestyle of rodeo, hunting, and fishing led Jason to start his guiding career. At 17-years of age, Jason could be found leading a pack string into the backcountry of Banff National Park always with a fly rod in the scabbard. Over the last 30-years Jason, often alongside his wife Jacki, his children Tanner, Tyler, and Brittani, family, and friends, have fished from the tailwaters to the headwaters of the Oldman River and its tributaries, the Crowsnest, St Marys, Castle, and Waterton Rivers catching the Cutthroat, Rainbow, Bull, and Brown trout that live within those streams.
In the last 20-years, Jason has followed his passion in the guiding and outfitting industry between guiding fly fishing clients in the beautiful Southern Alberta streams, to leading a pack string into Bighorn country, guiding with South Ram Outfitters, and guiding resident hunters throughout the Ram, Ranger, Cline, Clearwater, and the Willmore Wilderness. Those guiding opportunities led to many cherished memories, friendships, and stories to tell around the campfire.
Jason is a published outdoor writer including publications in Big Game Adventures Magazine, Alberta Outdoorsman, Big Buck Magazine, and Foundation for North American Wild Sheep Magazine. Jason has a long history as a committed volunteer through many years with Ducks Unlimited Canada, past Director Alberta Wild Sheep Foundation, a Calgary Stampede Rodeo Committee volunteer, and a member of the Angling Outfitter & Guide Association of Alberta (AOGAA).
Jason truly believes in western hospitality and is committed and dedicated to providing the best possible experience with the ultimate goal of treating his clients like he would want one of his own family members treated. From the drift boat on the prairies to walking and wading in the mountain streams, each day will be an adventure.
